TOMS

only makes me love TOMS even more....

One for One Movement

In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and staff later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by TOMS customers.

Why Shoes?
Many children in developing countries grow up barefoot. Whether at play, doing chores or going to school, these children are at risk:

•A leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted diseases, which can penetrate the skin through bare feet. Wearing shoes can help prevent these diseases, and the long-term physical and cognitive harm they cause.

•Wearing shoes also prevents feet from getting cuts and sores. Not only are these injuries painful, they also are dangerous when wounds become infected.

•Many times children can't attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don't have shoes, they don't go to school. If they don't receive an education, they don't have the opportunity to realize their potential.

They are now doing the same with glasses!

sleep tight don't let the bedbugs bite!

WANTED: DIY headboard ideas:  here are some i love:
headboard ideas below found here

You can make this ultramodern headboard in an hour, even if you have only a couple of bucks in your purse. Buy a piece of cheap plywood from your local home supply store. Sand it, stain it, seal it, then set it behind your bed and sleep tight knowing you're surrounded by serious style.

Knock knock. Who's there? A door. A door who? Don't you just adore this idea for a headboard to adorn your bedroom wall? We do! Find a flea market door with great architectural details. Attach it to the wall behind the bed or directly to the bed frame. Stack two or three doors for a taller, more dramatic look.

Add architectural interest to your bedroom without completely remodeling. Install high wainscoting behind your bed and top it with a store-bought shelf. Attach sconces to each side of the bed to eliminate the need for bedside tables. This clean and classic design will never go out of style.

Scour salvage stores for an old fireplace mantel wide enough to surround your bed. Chipping paint (as long as it is lead-free) adds character, so embrace imperfections! Seashells glued to the mirror and piled on the mantel contribute loads of beachy charm.

You know those genius ideas you have right before you fall asleep and can't seem to remember in the morning? Now you have a way to keep track of them. Use crown molding, a large picture frame, or an old mirror frame (minus the mirror) to craft this dramatic heaboard. Paint a sheet of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) with a few coats of chalkboard paint. Allow the paint to dry fully between coats. Place the MDF inside the frame and tuck it behind the bed. Remember to stock up on chalk!

bright idea

Canadian artist Nadia Tan, literally had a 'light bulb moment' recently!
Her stove light blew out and was determined to do something creative with it...
She found this DIY site; 'how to hollow out lightbulbs'.
Now she gets quite excited every time she finds a burnt-out light bulb!
Take a look at some of her beautiful creations :
